When home, I leave my laptop on with the screen either in screen saver mode or with it dimmed down.

Three cloud-based virtual drives running on my machine at the same time-- Dropbox, Google Drive and iCloud-- precipitated this.

Even with an SSD (Solid State Drive) installed, the totality of these three services calling home upon waking to resync themselves bricked the machine, or made it sluggish like an old-school PC until all these services were happy again.

I couldn't keep living this way. But leaving the computer on, with its screen dimmed, or in screen saver mode, presented an inviting spot for our two cats to sleep.

Which was cute and adorable, except... then it wasn't.

One. Sometimes I'd be called away from my computer before I could set the screen saver, or put the machine to sleep. In these cases, there was always some email in mid-composition which was almost sent. By a cat. Not even a qualified cat, at that.

Two. The cats' paws discovered all manner of key combinations to make all kinds of functions come on, or cease to function-- text to speech, accessibility functions, screen brightness, etc.

Three. At the end of the day, it's not cool to have cats sleeping on your computer. It looks cool, but the hair is obnoxious, their grooming on my work machine is borderline gross, and I say that as a cat lover. And you never know what they could push onto, or into the computer during their play.

So the Zen Table inspired keyboard cover came into existence.
